Thanks for your comments and websites, they really help what I'm looking for. Still one question is in mind. If I swap the strait 6 with a 289 would I have to swap the axle with one that handles more HP?

From everything I have read you will have to replace the rear axle for one that will handle the 8

I have a 289 long block that I just bought. It is torn down,ready to be rebuilt. I believe it is a 66. $75.

Dang I wish I woulda seen this thread a few weeks ago... I just sold my old 289 for $500. I sold it as a complete motor with heads and exhaust manifolds and a Power Plus intake and Comp Cam and everything. It had less than 10,000 miles on it since a complete rebuild and valve job.

i have a 289, 2 302s and 2 AOD transmissions in my backyard. the 289 is up for grabs. it's complete, i believe the heads have been reworked, new mild racing cam too, i believe. pm me if you're interested, then i'll go confirm it's internals and get you some pictures.

TylerDru bought a long block 302 off of ebay. I dont even know if he is using it or not.
