RE: Need helping finding 289 engines for sale
i dont know why no one answered your questions. if you want to put in a v8, either a 289, or a 302, you will have to replace the transmission, drive shaft, rear end, and the suspension. it's not just a plop and drop engine swap. it's a totally different car. everything is available to do the swap, but if you dont swap your suspension, when you hang a curve somewhere, sometime,.......... your engine momentum is gonna just keep going, and it is a lot harder on the brakes, etc. smaller mustangs, had smaller breaks, smaller sway bars, smaller / less # of lug nuts, etc.............. tranny's are different, drive shaft has different number of splines, rear end is different.......... it's a 5 lug vs a 4 lug, what you have right now.
everyone is jumpy to replace the 289's with 302's, but it depends on your car......... if it's all original...........and you swap out your 289, no matter what...........you have made the value of your car less............. original = better money. replaced motor, etc,.......... = less $$. if you want performance, and that is more important then originality, then swap em out. if you are not racing it, or want to leave it original,........... it's worth it. if you are wanting to go from a 6 cylinder, to a v8, it's not going to matter valuewise, my gt gets 8 miles per gallon.............the 6 cylinder convertible, once i get it back on the road, will get about 28-30 mpg.......choice is yours............. my ***** have dropped, and at $4+ per gallon of gas............. i'd rather same my gt for later, and drive the wheels off of the convertible. i'm not doing too many burn outs any more................. more into enjoying the scenery, and trying to get my college girl neighbors on there for a ride........... ;-)

I've got a good '65 289 short block for sale if interested. No valve covers or intake. The heads were redone by the previous owner then it started smoking (rings). A good builder for $75 if interested.

If you currently have a six in the car, you will need a lot more parts than just the engine. I think I am about to buy a 64 Ford parts car with a 289 that I will probably not be reusing. I do not yet know the condition of the engine or whether it is a five bolt or six bolt rear bolt pattern.
If you are still looking for a 289, let me know and I will keep you informed.
