RE: cold weather
Use a block heater. You can put it on a timer to come on a few hours before you leave in the morning. They install in one of your freeze plugs or you can get the bigger circ pump that splices into the bottom radiator hose. The block heater is better in my opinion as far as looks. You can't even see it when installed. The only tip off would be a male plug somewhere near your grill or rear valance. When you use one of these your water temp and block are warm before you start the car.

Also, make sure the heat tube from the exhaust is attached and the flapper inside the air cleaner is working.
A properly working choke really helps the most. Cold weather starting and running is one reason I like the manual choke in my truck so much. I've had it out when its 0 and don't really have to let it warm up. Just keep backing the choke off as it gets warmer.

If you you wanna drop some mullah on a new carb in the future, get an electric choke. With the key on, mine starts warming up right from the get go. Makes for easy starting in any hot, cold conditions.
