Default help...

Hi guys thanx for your help in advance. I by no means consider myself a mechanic but im trying. Im installing new leaf springs in my 64.5. I ran into a problem. The bolt towards the front of the car that bolts the springs to the frame will not come lose. I have tried sprying that gunk that is suppost to loosen bolts and hit it with a hammer 168 times. how would i go about removing that bolt so i can install the new leafs. thank you.

The bolt is frozen (rusted). So, the only way to get it out is to cut it off at both ends inside the spring eyes. I used a reciprocating saw, but others have used air cut off wheels and even cutting torches. One poster repoted taking off the back shackles and twisted the spring back and forth until the bolt came loose.

hey, i hate frozen bolts as much as anyone, but don't be so quick to cut it-- try heating, or try letting some bolt loosener set on it overnight-- cutting bolts kinda sucks

I have already been down that road. I used the torch to get it hot, then dumped some penetrating oil on it hoping that the oil would suck into the bolt and rust. All I did was burn up the rubber. So, out came the recip and about 4 or 5 steel cutting blades. Worked for me.
