HOT COIL
I was resetting the valve lash yesterday and while we were putting the valve covers back on happened to touch the coil....IT WAS HOT.... now the engine was cold and the key had been off, could turning the crank by hand to get each cylinder TDC have caused this to get hot ?? I than pulled the positive lead and the lead from the coil to the distibuter cap and left them off overnight, when I went out this morning the battery was dead? HUH??? Anyone with have a real clue about the problem?

RE: HOT COIL
It was the starter solenoid- it was stuck open / on, got it to reset but it is probably getting faulty unless turning the engine by hand or 'hitting' the started to get engine to TDC casued it to lock open. So thanks anyway I think this was the problem

RE: HOT COIL
I still don't see how a stuck solenoid would cause his coil to get hot.. That link tells me nada.. Its the same as running a jumper accross the starter solinoid when trying to start the car with the key off. No voltage to the coil cause the key is off.
By the way, I'm still not getting any notices via email.

RE: HOT COIL
I can see the solenoid getting hot but not the coil.

With it stuck open you will have a constant current flowing, so yes I can see how the coil would have heated up and your battery went down. Glad you got her fixed.
