yeah, i thought that at first too, Tyler, Thats why i asked if he did it with the car sitting. Get that idle adjusted right first, then lets work with the other problem, which i suspect to be electrical.....

Unless you have a very radical cam, you need to get that idle back to where it should be before doing anything else.

yea i have the idle set at 1400 itll idle below that rpm its just not a very smooth idle

i got a cam a little more radical than this http://www.classicinlines.com/prodde...268%2DHDP%2D10 but i cant get the exact specs cause they no longer carry the cam i have

and i got the problem fixed it turns out the bolt holding my dizzy still got loose som how and i adjusted the timing a lil this morning before i left for school and it purrs like a kitten now but i didnt get a chance to get the bolt tight cause like i said i was on my way to school and didnt have time to look very well for a 1/2in wrench cause i was in a hurry but im pretty sure i know where a half in wrech is in my car and ill tighten it down after school and maybe advance the timing a little more

alot of what everybody has said makes good sense. but you have it idled up to high. my 69, idles down when i turn the headlights on. not enough to bother me though. i havent read everybodys post??? but when its idled right and pushing the brakes in makes it die. thats alot of times just a simple vacum leak, why dont you get out there one night when its dark and crank the old beast up and look under the hood and see if its jumping fire from the plug wires anywhere! just look for the little sparks. anyhow if you have to idle at 1400 to keep it running the problem could be just about anything!! wiring, plugs, vacum, carb and a few other things im sure!!!! find some old shade tree mechanic and ask him what he thinks. the older and wiser mechanics know these old v-8"s

Well, Duhhhh! If the dizzy hold down bolt is loose you will get all sorts of crappy engine running problems. I assume you know to use a special tool to tighten that bolt down. Here's my trusty dizzy hold down bolt wrench.

Yep, there are noticeable differences between the 289 and the I6, huh? That is one of the most simple engines in the world to work on.
