The 6 is much better economically and easier to work on. Now, that being said, to switch to an 8 involves a lot of work(suspension swap,rear diff swap,brake upgrade to V-8 stuff,associated wiring for an 8,motor and frame mounts,etc...). Keep the six. it won't win any speed records, but it will get you there and back w/o problems.
