Im probably the third owner of mine. I bought it from my History teacher for $2,000, and it was in daily driver condition. I still pride myself on the great find.

My family is the second owner. My grandfather bought it in 73 for my uncle and then my dad drove it and parked it in 1980 after wrecking it. Now I've got it.

Only if you count "family owned"... My wife's parents bought it when she was born (they wanted a car that was "safer" than their beetle). Title transferred to my sister-in-law for a year about three years ago, then back to my mother-in-law, then to us this year. I plan to hold on to it and nurse it back to full health as time and money allow...

What is cool is that sometime around '82 they apparently decided it was/would be a classic, had it repainted (cheaply) and the interior completely redone (pretty well), and it's been driven less than 10K miles since then. My daily commute is about 4 miles round trip, so even if I drive it full time it won't be a big deal.

My '65 Fastback is an original "family" owner as well. My Grandfather ordered it brand new and gave it to his oldest son, who drove it for 4 years, then sold it to his brother. He drove it for another 4 years and then parked it. It sat outside rotting away for 20 years before an in-law performed a half-a#$ed cosmetic restoration, rebuilt the A-code 289, and redid most of the interior over the course of a year. It was entered in a few car shows and driven in a parade or two for a year, and then was stored inside under a cheap cover for another 10 years. It was given to me this summer. My grandfather and both of my uncles have been telling me many stories about the car, and I found out that my parents had used the car while dating. I was one of the only grandkids to go for a ride in it before it was parked in '74, and I have wanted it since I was about 10. That was 26 years ago. So this car has quite a bit of family history.

I have a story alot like the one above.

My family is the second owner of the car. It was purchased for my wife's uncle in the early 70's. (It was originally a california car) He drove it for around 5 years then after a recently putting in a new short block parked the car. It sat in his garage until the late 80's and then was towed under a shed on his in-law's property. My in-laws drove the car for a while when my wife's uncle was living with them and even had the brakes die going down a big hill in livingston TX. My wife coazed her uncle into letting us have the car in the hopes that we would fix it, and it has been in my pocession for under a year. All of my wife's family loves this car and wants to see it on the road again. My wife's cousin was going to sell it for a couple hundred dollars if we didn't take it.

I think Soaring isn't the only one on here old enough to have owned an original. Neither of my current two (65, 66) are originals but, I had three friends with 65's one coupe one convertible and a 2+2 fastback back in the day. I had a 65 Olds F-85 (my second car). Graduated from a 59 Rambler Station Wagon. We gathered at the A&W on Broadway in Riviera Bch, and cruised etc. Good times.
