What's it worth? 66 Convertible w/ 302
I recently looked at a 1966 convertible that was fully restored (engine, frame, body, interior) to a good, but not show condition. The major issue I saw was that a 1968 302 2-V was put in place of the original 289 2-V.
What does this engine swap do to the value of the car? What would be a good price for this vehicle (in New England)?
Also, are there any visual differences that would make it obvious that the car has the wrong engine for that year?
Thanks for your feedback!

Depending on how much time and effort the guy put in it, and how much of a "full" restoration he's done, he's probably asking $12,000 or better. I wouldn't pay any more than that. I'd try to get him down in the $10,000 range, but I'm cheap. <grin> The engine issue isn't really an issue unless your planning on showing concourse or something. Most people, the average joe that is, can't tell the difference between a 302 and 289. If your wanting it to drive around and look good in, don't sweat the 302.

I dont know exactly what it would do to the value, but in a M&F article years ago they were talking about the values of cars...it seems that even the modified ones bring good prices if they are 'desirable'. What made them desirable was having power steering, a/c, etc.
If i were you, i'd be more concerned price wise about whether or not it is an actual factory GT.
my two cents

I was thinking that about 6 years ago you could find a nice one for about $10,000. $10,000 to $12,000 sound to me that it's about right. If you want to , you could find a 289 With the right code and put it in. I heard of putting in 5.0 in a 66. Would that be better then a 289?
