well the info i got was from mustang monthly. also the hp on the 429 with 375 was for the 70 mustang boss. well thats what i was reading i mean also i was looking up more sites about the boss's and they seem to have different hp ratings i mean i dont know if my info is true on the hp rating but i know every thing else is true. but then again we could be wrong but who knows. also i was reading on the hp stats and they changed like every year i guess. but wasn't there also a rumor that ford lied to the insurance companys saying that it had less hp?? the qoute that i found was this: "428 boss/ 429cobra jets were one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world. the engine was purposefully rated at 375 (so to not to worry insurance companys) but actually put out 410 hp stock right from the factory." so i mean i cant really say if thats true or wether to say im right and your wrong. i mean honestly i really dont know much about the 428 nor the 429 engine because they are different types of engines but hopefully you guys heard about this rumor.

No sweat. 69 and 70 were both rated at 375. You are correct, the lowball rating was for insurance purposes and that 410 HP number was actually much higher than that. The only reason the cars were built was so Ford could use the Boss 429 in racing. IIRC the Boss 302 was actually quicker in the 1/4 mile. The Boss 9 cars ran low 14's with street tires. Just as the SOHC 427 was the star of the FE family, the Boss 9 is the star od the 385 family. They are truly awesome. Nowadays, authentic Boss 9 cars start at about 25k and go way north. When I graduated HS in 1972, I had a choice of buying a 69 AMX 390 for $2,500 or a 70 Boss 429 for $4,000. Yes, they were that cheap! Anyhow , I went with the AMX. It was a great car but when I think that I could have had Mustang...
