Well, I've heard from 10 different people, that there where only 201 1972 mustang convertibles made with the factory ordered 351c CJ 4v with the 4spd manual transmission .
Only 5% of Mustangs produced in 1972 were convertibles (6,401 out of 125,405). Of those only 201 were built with the 351 “Q” code, 4-barrel V-8, and a 4-speed gearbox.

The rest that where ordered with the 351c CJ "Q" code engine had the factory automatic transmission instead.

I am going on what I have been told and what I have found out via the internet while doing research on the vehicle..

So no I will not be putting the boss decals on the car I will be making in stock looking with factory options. I have just put the magnum 500 wheels and the side sport stripes on the car..
I have got to get a picture uploaded on here..

The Larry Shinoda Boss Mustangs are aftermarket upgrade packages or Boss Mustangs that come from the Team Shinoda Shops and sold at Dealers.

How it works is you buy all the upgrades they sell to fit the spec sheet for your year and then you buy the designation and registration from them. I think its a way for the family of Larry Shinoda to continue his legacy and make a few bucks along the way. Mostly the cars have beefed up suspensions but theere are a lot of engine mods too included twin turbo setups.

Has anyone heard of a 72 boss 429? Im sure this wasnt anything official, but supposedly a few were made. Someone was just telling me the other day that he had a friend who bought a 72 Mustang new from the dealership with a boss 429. And this is coming from someone who currently owns 2 boss 429 engines. I live in Dearborn, so who knows, they may have been something that snuck out the back door of the proving grounds, but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of a few (supposedly 6 i think it was) 72 boss '9s being made.

i doubt they were sold as Boss's if they were made.

on the other hand, you never know and if its true then they'd be rarer than rocking horse poo and pretty valuable.

Since you guys mentioned him, I figured some background on the guy was in order. Quite the interesting man, wish I could have met him. Wish I could have met Duntov too... oh well.

Larry Shinoda info
more from wikipedia.

Lawrence Kiyoshi (Larry) Shinoda (March 25, 1930 - November 13, 1997) was a noted automotive designer who was best known for his work on the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang.

He was born in California and spent time in a Japanese internment camp during WW II. He attended the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles but was kicked out, and went to work first for Ford Motor Company in 1955, then Packard, then General Motors in late 1956. Working with GM design chief Bill Mitchell and Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, he refined work on concept cars that eventually translated into the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray and the 1968 version, patterned after Shinoda's Mako Shark show car.

In 1968 Henry Ford II hired former GM executive Bunkie Knudsen to be president of Ford. Knudsen recruited Shinoda to come to Ford in hopes of improving the styling and sales of Ford's lineup. Shinoda's first project at Ford was a high performance Mustang known as the Boss 302. Reportedly Shinoda chose the name "Boss" as a homage to Knudsen. He led design for the Mustang models for 1970-1973 as well, but when Knudsen was fired from Ford late in 1969 Shinoda left as well.

Shinoda later opened an independent design firm and did work for GM, Ford, and aftermarket companies. He died in 1997 while still an active designer; his tradition is carried on by his daughter Karen.

nobody has ever heard of a couple 72 boss 429s? Im guessing if they were made that way from ford, they would have been made strictly for the race track, and never saw the street.

It was a 10 Liter (604c.i.) Boss 429 based engine backed by a C-6 and the car was co-build by Roush and SVT. It was a prototype, it was red, the combustion chambers were machined out to be a true hemi instead of "semi-hemi" chambers like the original street heads had, the heads were aluminum, and I think that the block was as well. Very fast and powerful (over 800 HP)...there use to be an article of it on the old SVT website under the concepts catagory, but after they changed the website I haven't seen it on there. There was also an article on it in Mustangs Monthly or Mustangs and Fords earlier this year or late last year.

-0-60 in under 3 seconds, 9 inch rearend, fuel injected, naturally aspired power, in a mid 90s body. It has traction bar, performance suspension, stall converter, cowl induction hood. There was a lot of cool stuff, I just wish that I could find the magazine article.
