Default 1971 Convertable w/351-Cleveland. How to get Dual Exhaust...

Hey guys. I got a 1971 Ford Mustang Convertable Deluxe w/ a 351-Cleveland engine. I want to change it to a dual exhaust system (on both sides) instead of just the stock single tail pipe. I need the headers, pipes, mufflers and a pair of muffler tips. Anyone got any info? Thanks

-Tony

Are you sure its an orginial. All the 351c I came across have dual exhaust from the factory including mine.
Try CJ Pony parts. I buy a lot from them.

It will depend on the kind of sound you want, but for headers, try googling JBA and Hookers and Tri-Y. For mufflers, we all have our individual preferences, but DynoMax, Flowmaster, Borla, and Ravin come to mind. And, even within the brand there are variations in mufflers. Again, it depends on what kind of sound you want. For pipes, you can either get a complete system with headers, X pipe, mufflers and pipes at various Mustang vendors, or you can buy each piece, then have the muffler shop furnish the pipes, for a price, of course. So, let us know if you want a tame, mild, or wild sound.

rwh129- Yes I am sure mine is original. Unless it was changed to a single exhaust, which I doubt.

Soaring- Thanks for the help. I want a very muscley, above mild sound. Loud enough to be noticed, but something I could hear without getting annoyed as this will be my daily driver. Any thoughts?

You could always go to a custom exhaust shop. That's what I usually do. They aren't that expensive and are generally better quality installs.

Yeah I think that is what I will probably have to do. Im just more of a do-it-yourself kind of guy. But about the sound of the muffler. Anyone know one I would like? I want it to be super loud, but it will be my daily driver and I dont want to get annoyed with the sound. A sound just about Mild I would guess. Any suggestions?

Another question. Will 3' pipes fit my car?

I believe the 351c 2v had a single and the 4v had duels. Not sure if the 2v could be special ordered with duels tho.

Yes I have the 2V. I am customizing it with headers, all 3' pipes, dual Flowmaster 40 Series with 3' intake and 3' out. Should be nice. Anybody know how much more fuel my car will waste?
