Thumpin those merlins were low rev engines I think 3,200 was yellow line with danger at 4,000.

I know the Germans built the fw 190 d9 around a Jumo that was “high” revving engine (maybe 4,000 yellow line) and put out a tad over 2,000 hp with the MW-50 It was air cooled and still didn’t perform as well as the mustangs at 25-30 + thousand feet up but was better than their A9 model. The mustang really shined because of its well designed airfoil was sleek and good up high.

Still that merlin is awesome the whole earth stops when they fire up and there is nothing like blue flames shooting from 12 exhaust ports on an engine running close to 90 inches of boost pulling a plane along at close to 450 mph

Damn +1 on the p51 mustang

yep, crap sport IMO as well, but the sound of a merlin has to be heard to be believed. Its very distinctive.
they also chopped 2 cyls off one to make a 5 litre drag bike. Budweiser had an offshore power boat with one in it too.

do you guys get the "extreme horsepower" shows over there? thats what they made the car for. we also get "drifting" comps, usually with 600hp Nissans and the like, but occaisionally someone will turn up with a 1000hp V8 to put the cat amongst it.

IMHO difting is silly, just drive a sprint car. You have a clear winner instead of some BS like in figure skating. Figure skating is much better than drifting becasue of the hot chicks in tight pants...

Tractor pulls are a farmer kinda thing. I dont get into them, but wouldnt mind having some of the engines they run.

Worst "sport" I have heard of next to drifiting would be swamp buggy races. really now, WTF mate? driving around in a puddle, you gotta be bored to do that stuff.
