Yeah, I thought that I had rust problems before I found this site. After tearing out the carpet, I began stripping the rust off the floor, only to find out that was most of my floor on the driver's side.

I read the tech articale about removing and replacing the cowls. What is the rear apron they are refering to? I know you have to pull the windshield, fenders, hood and the three hundred weld part. Then the article refers to removing the rear apron before removing the cowl. What is this part?

I'd assume thats the rear fender apron... the piece between the firewall and the shocker tower....assuming is the key word

Guess I'll find out when I get into it. I've seen the photos of the apron, but can't compare it til I get the fenders off. I may just order them anyway. The cowls are toast so that part will most likely be just as bad.

Not necessarily. IMO, the condition of the fender aprons has little to do with the condition of the cowls, beyond general attention to upkeep by the previous owner(s). What leaking cowls have an enormous effect on is the condition of the floor pan. If the cowls have been leaking for very long, you will probably find that your floor pan is rusted out as well cause that's where the water leaking from the cowls ends up at.
