Running HOT !

RE: Running HOT !
went out and bought a new water pump just for the hell of it - old one looked OK once off but who knows
is there a way to test the block for clogs? shove a garden hose in the thermostat housing?
also, once back together can i use just water in the radiator as a dry run? hate to waste a jug of anti-freeze if this didnt solve the problem...
thanks a million for the help

RE: Running HOT !
As you can see by the pic below, I cut my heater hose and then I add the "T" plastic thing that you can buy from any parts store and hook up a garden hose there. "Prestone" makes them, and they will be on the rack at the coolant section of the store. I open the petcock on the rad, turn the engine on, and turn on the garden hose with the heater wide open. That will flush your system. After the water runs clear, just keep draining all the water out, then put the plastic tube that comes with the kit in the heater hose so it is back to a one flow direction hose again. Once the system is clear, add a gallon of anti-freeze and about two gallons of distilled water. Put the cap back on and get the engine up to operating temp and see if that solves your problem.

RE: Running HOT !
does it matter what heater hose i use? (one is running to water pump and one is running to block)
and you begin this process with the radiator completely empty?
and one LAST question - is it true that you do not want to run 50/50 mixture? more like 25% coolant 75% water?

RE: Running HOT !
Nope. I flush with a garden hose with either a full or empty radiator. The garden hose will fill up the radiator and keep the engine very cool.
I run 50/50 in all my cars. Anti-freeze is also coolant and needs higher concentrations to be more beneficial. Read the chart on the jug of coolant you buy to determine the mix you want to use for your particular climate.
