I have built a box for the battery to keep it secure and I will be using 2 gage wire I would like to know what the best way to route the wire would be. the shorter distance the better but I would like to go through the inside of the car if possible to reduce the chance of dmg to the wire from stuff getting kicked up under the car.... any comments or suggestions would be great.

Can we assume you are going to be relocating the battery to the passenger side of the trunk?

It might be easier (and nicer) to run it inside metal conduit along the frame rail. This way you do not get a lump in the carpet and have to drill a hole in the fire wall.

My dad and I put our battery to the driver side of the trunk because passenger side has the spare tire... And we bought a box at Interstate, and ran the wire with the plastic coating around it that slips over the wires, underneith the car. There was a little hole thing in the trunk, and we slipped the wires throught that ran along the frame rail underneith and went to the hood area and yea. Opens alota room under there with out the battery there.

I used heavy gauge wire with very good coating on my '65 F250 (battery under the rear of the bad) and my '99 Contour (battery to truck). As long as you use high quality wire and protect it by running it along the frame rails, you won't have any problems.

If you dont have a spare tire in your trunk, mount the box on the passenger side of the trunk. This will keep more weight on your "spinning wheel", giving you more traction. You should route the wire up over your right wheel well back into that cavaty and it will appear near the internals for the small back window. From there you can put it in the little tunnel under your scuff plate. Then you can pull it out near the firewall, put it through the wall, and to your battery.

Thanks for the input, yes it is going to be mounted on the passenger side where the spare tire would be if I haled it around all the time (only big trips) and I think I like the idea of metal conduit to protect it with going under the car, but I still need to get the wire and take a closer look at how it would be best to route it (not the easiest way).

whats the deal with relocating the battery anyway? lol seems like alot of people have done it around here...

Here are a couple of pictures of how I did mine. I left the solenoid in the stock location. You can see from the pictures that I drilled two holes to the get the cable to run under the sill plate in the door jam. For those that are asking, the benifit of moving the battery is better weight distribution. Take forty pounds from the front and add it to the back. These cars are front heavy anyway so every little bit helps.
