Front Frame Rail Repair

RE: Front Frame Rail Repair
Halz5, I think you are incredibly modest. This job sound hard an worrisome.
You have given me something to think about, especially since my passenger side rail needs a front patch as well because of battery corrosion.
How did you support the car while you had it all apart?

RE: Front Frame Rail Repair
It looks like you might just need the extensions, since I can't see what the rest of the rail looks like, as you can see the floor was bad the extensions worse, and since this is a '66 I didn't even have a torque box installed. The actual front rail was pretty solid had a section that had rusted out that was near the extension. Cut out that section welded in a new section re-inforced it witha section of angle iron, and then started in with all new pieces and a previously non-existent torque box, then floor pan and seat riser. The job may not be as bad as you think, then again we are talking about Mustangs right?

We had the front end up on jackstands, just had the stands underneath the pillar that comes down for the door. It was still very solid their, on my car anyway.

Cusbuild, it looks like you frame rail is in worse shape than mine. I will know for sure when I get the torque box and floor support off. The rest of the frame rail on my driver side looks rust free, so at this point I am having a hard time imagining replacing the whole thing. I have ordered 1 frame patch rear patch from CJ Pony Parts to make sure it is what I need before I order the other. Did you order a patch, and if so from where?
Thanks

RE: Front Frame Rail Repair
68FSBK, I bought the replacement front rail extension. It is about 26" long and is an additional welded on piece from the front rail to about where the seat would sit. I think it was about $30 or so. I get most of my parts from a place called the Paddock, They usually are a couple of bucks higher in cost on most parts, but since they are here in central Indiana and only about 40 minutes from my front door I can drive and pick up all my stuff so I pay no shipping. Tends to even out in the long run. I just usually wait and order my stuff in bunches, call them a couple of days ahead of time, make sure they got it all then go pick it up. These days I just don't seem to have much time to dedicate to bringing her back to life.
