I've heard that even the 5.0 harness and intake will fit on fine on the 289. Mustangs Monthly put a 5.0 EFI setup on a 289 and it worked out fine, so give it a try. And Thumpin, would you be interested in a 69 Deluxe that I had could only use as a parts car since I dont have the tools to weld and cut the parts it needs? Which is mostly the entire body

289 and 302 are the same externally, unless you happen to have a 289 with the 5-bolt bell housing.

ya the standard efi of a 5.0 will work but not an 5.0 HO unless you use a 5.0 ho cam to change the firing order if i remember right cause there was a warning online about that and it won't run right you might wanna look into that

15426378 versus the 13726548 firing order for the newer engines. Just pick up a cam for a 351W and you'll get the right firing order for the 289.
The lift/timing specs will vary based on how you want the engine to respond. 48x lift with 21x-22x duration @ 050 will get you a good mild cam for the 289. If you want to take advantage of its revving capability, draw the duration out to 23x @ 050 with around .500 overall lift. Comp Cams is a good company that can make some recommendations based on what you intend to do.
