Default Miss at higher RPMs

What are some of the things that could cause an engine to miss at high RPMs? It idles very smooth, but at about 3000 or so RPM's it starts to miss. I've checked the fuel filters, its got a new fuel pump, kit in the carb, plugs, plug wires, points.

Under load, or anytime the rpm is above 3K?
Toss it on a scope and all will become very clear.

Good luck,

Doesn't have to be under a load. Could a coil going bad cause it?

There aren't many purists left, so I can completely understand your sticking with the points system. You, me and EarlyStang are about the only ones left on this site.
I put in the Pertronix module a few months ago, and it cleaned up a lot of ignition issues on mine. You would never know if I had electronic ignition just by popping the hood and looking at the engine. Try it.....and if you don't agree with me, then it can be sold for the same amount you paid for it which is less than 70 bux.
If you still are reticent, then make sure your points are new and clean, set at 0.017 and that you have a new condenser and coil with good wires and plugs.

You crack me up. Up post you have a problem. Can't figure out why and say you will not change to the pointless ignition system to see if that helps even though I said it helped with my miss. STAY WITH POINTS. It is only outdated by how many years? lol

I thouroughly agree that electronic iginition is more reliable and powerful and such and superior to points, but I'm just partial to my points. It still shouldn't miss with points though, so apparently there is a problem somewhere. My 68 hasn't had the points changed or adjusted in 27 years. My points and condensor ore new and set, but the coil is old. Could this be the problem? It seems to be a recent development.

Check your distributor shaft to make sure there is no side to side play in it. A little up and down play is ok but side to side is no good.

What do you mean by that? If you haven't changed the points in 27 years, then you have found your problem. If, however, you meant that you still have the point system which has not been upgraded and you have a fresh set of points in it, then you may want to replace your coil.
Get a reading on your present coil with a multi-meter, then report back with the reading.
