Default disc brake calipers

Well I just started to install new pads in my 66 and the passenger side caliper is touching the hub assemble on the outside edge, and about one quarter of an inch away from the hub on the inside edge. The caliper bolts are tight. I was wondering if the whole hub assemble in not tightened down enough on the spindle? i.e. wheel bearings gone, loose? Any help would be great. Thanks

That's very possible. If you are changing pads, it's about time to clean, inspect and repack the wheel bearings anyways (about every 20K miles service interval). This will give you an oportunity to check all the nuts and bolts for proper torque, and components for wear and/or damage.

Good luck,

OK. Took off the caliper and the hub and rotor assembly. Cleaned everything up, and noticed that the spindle is bent down. This would explain why the pads are so close to the outside edge of the roter. Now, where would one get a 66 spindle? Thanks.

Check the other side, hopefully that bent spindle is from hitting a curb, but you never know. If it were me, I'd inspect the whole darned front end to include the frame rails, shock towers, cross member, etc.
That was a pretty severe impact to bend the spindle down. If you start finding stuff, don't stop at the front end.
BTW: you'll probably need an alignment to correct for the camber change.

I picked up a nice set off fleabay. IIRC about $200.00 for the pair. I think there are two cottage companies that are making correct geometry, but heavier duty spindles, or you could have a custom set made through a race shop.

Good luck!

Thanks, I had the whole front end dissassembled and was rebuilding it when I noticed this problem. The shock towers, export brace, drivers side wheel , frame, floor pans (just replaced) seem to be ok. I drove the car for awhile and it wasn't too bad. I hope I only need a new spindle. Is there any after market supplier? Thank you

I thnk Degins makes one that has stock geometry but uses the Granada caliper mounting. There is another guy who has a couple in prototype that look promising, and will be able to run the original K-H calipers. Also here is another link if you are willing to go away from the stock brake hardware:

If you are willing to do the geometry you can have a custom set fabricated as well.
Just one last thing. Not to be a dick, but... if you missed a bent spindle what else may you have missed? Might be worth a recheck, if for no other reason than your peace of mind.
Good luck,
