The 4v carb setup will give you about 20 or so more ponies at full throttle, but nothing at anything less than full throttle. The secondaries have to kiick in before the 4v has any advantage over the 2V carb and intake.

You should dump your junk 2V and give it a try.
A tuned Edelbrock 500 cfm will give superior torque and economy even at lower airflow levels.

On the small block Fords (289-302) the same cam was used from 1965-1974 so it will handle the 4V carb with no problem. On heads, the 1966 up heads have real small exhaust ports, removing the "emission bumps" will make a huge difference. If by some chance you can find a set of 65 or older 289 4V heads, that works even better. I had a 1970 1/2 Falcon wagon (think Torino) with a 302 2V that I did these modifications to. I added 351W exhaust manifolds and dual exhausts. The end result was a lot better performance and economy. I used a Holley 600 cfm 4 barrel on it.

'71 didn't have the emission bumps. Older heads may have valves smaller than the normal 1.78/1.45 valves, so that's something to look out for.
