Default looking for some cylinder heads

well after finding out the left banks heads have almost all their valve guides shot ive decided to just do new cylinder heads all around.

ive still got the '66 289 stock engine. Just a quick question. wondering what is a good head to by trick flow, edelbrock, ford aftermarket stuff etc. i need something thats a little better than stock but isnt going to bust my ***** in price (lower than 500 each if possible).

any good ideas?

+1 on the gt40s they are cobra spec they can be found on 93-95 5.0 cobras and 96-97 5.0 explorers(the explorers will be cheaper cause they dont have the cobra image in the boneyard) and also the gt40p 98-01 5.0 explorers(has a revised spark plug angle requires long tubes to clear might have to ask around as to what set would fit) butthe regular gt40 will not require any exhaust mods

+1 more for the gt40 heads
BTW... I thought the "good" heads were 96 only

I would vote for aluminum. AFR's, Edelbrock or trick flow.

Air Flow Research (AFR) aluminum heads are superior to the gt40's, but more expensive. If money is that tight, then I would search the junk yards for some gt40's and overhaul them, or get new ones from a parts place.
You also have to think ahead about what else you want to do with that engine. Just throwing a set of heads on it won't necessarily improve the performance.

well im looking for something just to get my car running again while doin a little performace improvement. right now i already have long tube hookers so the reversed spark plug angle wont be a problem. i was looking at the gt40's but they seemed a little pricy so i guess u would have to check out a junk yard. if i do that what should i be looking for as far as quality of it. i dont wanna put them in and it to already be f-ed up or last only a month
