If you go to this site you may be able to find the answers to your questions. I have to do the same thing with a 392 in front of the 4R70W. I am sure though that you'll have to go to a drive-line company who can shorten up your drive-shaft. Be sure to ask the guys at Baumann Electronic Controls what exactly you need to do before you shorten your drive-shaft and where to measure from. I believe you need one inch of play into the tranny and then to the centre of the yoke on the back but ask them forsure cuz they can tell you exactly how to measure your drive-shaft before you get it cut.
Good-luck
