My little compressor is used mainly for airing up tires and blowingj off the water and/or dust from the air filters and blowing off the carb cleaner, etc. There is a limit to how much you want to spend on an aircompressor. You buy one that fits your daily or even occasional needs. If you are setting up a shop to paint cars and use high compression air tools, then the big boys need to be in your shop. You have to weigh the difference between how often you will be using an expensive aircompressor as opposed to having someone else do it for you. Personally, I can't forsee having the need to have a large volume and expensive aircompressor in my little garage workshop. I will farm out those jobs that need that.
