Default power steering

So I have a 1970 mustang coupe with straight 6. It has no power steering and when you get going the car wants to pull and theres a bunch of play in the wheel. I want to put power steering but is it somthing i should have a shop do, or is it somthing i could do in my garage? also what should i do about the pulling and the play in the steering?
Some one help me out.

Default RE: power steering

First of all, if the car pulls, then something in the suspension and/or linkage is mis-adjusted or worn out. You need to find out what this problem is first and get it fixed.

If the suspension is set up right, and it is aligned properly and it still has a lot of steering play, then the steering box is likely in need of a rebuild and should be done next.

After the suspension and linkage are setup correctly, then you can think about adding power assist to the car. By this time, you may find that the car steers alright and you don't really need the power assist added to the car.

Either way, there is no point in adding power assist to the car until the other issues have been corrected.
