1965 6cyl, c-4, 1v auto choke. Problem with fuel or trans?
Hello,
New to the forum. Just bought a 65 coupe, 6 cyl, 1100 carb with auto choke, a/c (in place but not hooked up), c-4 trans, buckets. Have had the car a few weeks now. Brakes were shot, very fun to get in the garage at the bottom of a steep driveway and the car stalled as I pulled in the garage. I restarted it and pulled on in, took it out of gear and let it run some. No smoke no knocks sounded great. I Fixed the brakes over the past week or so and decided that I would go gas it up. Drove down to the corner station put a bit of gas in and started home. Got to the light and it stalled as I stopped. Started it right back up no problem. Put it in gear and it stalled again. This went on two more times. Strangely enough it did not stall in Reverse. Thusly I found out that the local Sherrif's deputies don't like you driving home doing your best "Mater" impression regardless of how good you are at driving backwards and how close you are to home. Got home and tried drive again, it stalled. Fought with it a few more times and let it sit. Went back started it up, put my foot on the gas foot on the brake in drive and down my driveway it went. Have to make a 3 point turn to get in the garage, as I started the last leg into the garage it stalled again. Gas, brake, in gear and made it in. Took it out of gear and it ran fine just like it has from the very begining. The question after the long winded description....Is the problem in the carb or the transmission or somewhere I haven't thought of yet? Any ideas? Thank you for yout time and responses in advance.
