Default Bumper brace nuts...

Hi all. I just bought a very decent '65 fastback. The bodywork has been done to a fair degree, but I noticed right off that the front bumper-guards were missing. I assumed that they sere just badly rusted, and needed replaced. Further inspection revealed broken bolts in 2 of 4 bumper brace nuts (the ones that go into the frame) and the tubular braces are rusted through in spots. I was able to extract one of them very easily, but the aft driver's side is a beeeaaaatch. I'm very used to broken fasteners, but this one is different, and I'm tentative to reef on it with an easy-out for fear of breaking off the captive-nut inside the frame-rail. Is there any alternative to drilling it out one (or two) size and re-threading it?[:@]

Thanks. The bolt head was already sheared off, with the shaft still stuck inside. I was able to drill all the way through the bolt without screwing up the threads, but I still can't extract it. I think I'll just keep drilling out the bolt until I reach near the threads, then tap it...very slowly...

OK. I kept at it with the incremental drill-bit thing and tapped it with the proper thread. The tap sheared out what was left of the nasty bolt and mad some clean new threads. everything went back together perfectly. Thanks for the support!

I agree. I have two of them. One for drilling, and one for screwing.
