Default Gasket for 390

Hey, new to the forum...whoohoo!

I pulled out the old stang and now I am in restoration mode. I finally caught up with all my other junk so I can work on it. Anyways, I have been looking for an exhaust manifold gasket for a 390 GT engine. I want a copper one if I can find it. I like (not sure if I can say) Mustangs Unlimited and National Parts Depot for my parts (close by), but I have not been able to find one at either place. Does anyone have any ideas? I found one on ebay but not sure it will fit. The bolt pattern is the same but the port sizes are a little off.

See if these guys have what you want. They are Fel-Pro gaskets so should be quality.

I don't know if these are copper or not but Mansfield sells high quality products. If you give them the numbers off your heads they should be able to set you up with the right gaskets. http://mansfieldmustang.com/EngineExhaust.html

Hey, thanks for the quick replies. I finally tracked down a copper gasket with the correct port sizes. I did however learn something during this trial...the mustangs with the 390 GT came from the factory without manifold gaskets. Just a machined surface I guess.

Most Ford engines didn't come with exhaust manifold gaskets. They used a machined surface and were simply assembled metal to metal. Watch your bolt pattern on FE engines, some ports are side to side and some are top to bottom. Many later heads are drilled for both, but some have the provision for side too side, but aren't drilled and tapped. Have fun installing them!

That's true, but most of those heads and manifolds developed leaks due to warpage from heat.
