Default Just blew up a muffler!..need some timing help

ok so its a 351C 2V, holley 2bbl carb, stock distributor with pertonix conversion. So I was in the process of retiming my engine and when I went to crank it...BOOM. Bye bye driver side muffler. How did this happen? Am I 180 degrees off? Anyone that can tell me a step by step process on retiming this thing will be greatly appreciated. Ive been bring the #1 cylinder to TDC via looking at the balancer and pointer. Ive tried this several times and no luck. Please someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks

make sure your hitting TDC on the right stroke so you wont be out 180. This caused your muffler to blow up or fall off or what

You might be out 180*. Pull the #1 plug and feel the pressure build on your finger that is plugging the hole as you manually crank the engine. Sort of like playing twister with your stang. Now your at TDC for reals.

put a screw driver carefulllllllllll in plug hole till comes allway up and just b4 moves down thats about tdc//look at where ya distributer rotor points to and make ya spark plug#1 start there...double check firing order....i believe 351c are same as 302 and have a reverse firing order...in counter clock direction..make sure by crankin motor and seein which way ya rotor moves...

A neat way to find TDC on #1 is to stuff a rag in the spark plug hole, and turn the engine over until the rag "pops" out. Then put a screwdriver in the hole, and you will feel the piston at the top of the stroke.

NO! The 302 and the 351 have entirely a different firing order. The 351 is 13726548

I thought I replied to this... strange.

Glen is right about the firing order.

Was it a different thread or just a double post... my head hurts. I am gonna go weld some more.
