Well, I am not going to take my wheel off to get a pic. If you are talking about the steering column itself, it is attached to the dash with a U looking affair. (first pic). If you are talking about the wheel itself, you may just have a loose nut. Try putting a washer behind the nut so you can tighten it down.

I'd highly recommend getting the CD version of the Shop manual for these old cars. I can't tell you how many times I have used it since getting it a few months ago. Well worth the money!

I’m pretty sure the only thing in the column on the 65 that support the steering shaft ( that prevents slop/play) is a copper colored bushing that slides down the shaft and mates with the larger cut out circle on the column.

Basically the shaft fits through the column and exits through a hole slightly bigger than the outside diameter of the shaft. You then slide this bushing down the shaft. This bushing takes up the slop at this exit hole.

IIRC, the bushing goes in, the wheel follows and then the nut. There is no nut between the wheel and the bushing as far as I can remember. I'm about to take the wheel off on mine, so if you don't get a definitive answer by then, I'll take a look and snap a pic.
