Default Engine numer decoding

I got the oil pan off after 90 minutes struggling with it, needless to say I need a new one. (I put a nice dent in it) Oh well, it's off at least. While I had the starter off I finally got the numbers off the block. they are as follows; C80E-6015A above those numers is 9B12. The car has a 2V on it and if I'm not mistaken, they didn't use a 302 2V in the 68's. So either the engine is from a differen't car from 68 or they swapped manifolds and carburators... please advise. Thanks again.

Where did you read/hear that the 1968 302 engine didn't have a 2V? If the code on the 1968 302 is "F" then it is a 2V.

Looks like your motor is a 302 from a 69-69. You can go to this website and have a look. It's helpful for decoding ford engines. Hope this helps ... Good luck

Motor Trend Jan 1968...... My car is a 'J' code but has a 2V. That's why I had a hunch it wasn't the original engine. Apparently from what I could find out from decoding the block, it is from a 68 Toreno or Fairlane.

I found this the other day, it's got some good info.

Looks like your motor is out of a 68' Torino or Galaxy.

Thanks guys. Apparently it is obvious I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. So if the engine is a 302 from 68 and says J code on the VIN (but I have a 2V) the PO swapped carburators for some reason. OYE!

That 302 2V is from a 68 Fairlane. Doesn't matter though, it's still the same 302 2V Ford put in Mustangs in 68.
