Help me figure out what motor I have..
Hi guys.. We're new to this forum as we usually hang out at SVTPerformance & Corral, but we now have an older mustang which we require assistance on.. We Bought a 67 mustang with a 5.0 in it.. Not sure as to what year 5.0 is in it. The previous owner said its definitely not the original motor and he thought it may have come out of a fox.
It has a MSD PN#8582 distributor with a MSD 6A box and coil. It also has a performer RPM intake, with a holley (dont know which one, think its a 4 barrel) carb and electric fuel pump.. I pulled the plugs and I had to use a 13/16 socket (Aren't the 5.0's usually 5/8?).. The plugs were Champion RF11YC..
I'm trying to figure out what motor is in it so I can figure out what the spark plug gap is supposed to be among other things.. As you can tell, I don't really know much about these older cars and I will appreciate any guidance I can get.. Thanks!

It has too many aftermarket parts added to the top of the engine to tell what it is. It could be anything from a 289, 302 or 5.0. Get the casting number from behind the starter and we can decode it for you.

It's very hard to tell there should be a number behind the starter motor which can be decoded to tell you.

Pull the starter, there's a number stamped in the block there. We can get alot more detailed from that.

Plug gap will be determined by your ignition system. You should be able to run .045-.050 without much problem from what I see. You should be running either Autolite 42's (small plug) or 45's (big plug).
What other parts are you looking to change?
