Default 65 Mustang Driver's seat still too close...?

I am 6'3" and my 15 inch steering wheel has my knee really tight to my shifter... I heard there might be away to move the seat mounts further back... Anyone done that? Is this common?

I'm 6' 2" myself, plus a BIG guy at 275 pounds, and I fixed that little problem.

I took out the original seats and bought Elite seats from Mustang Plus, plus went for a 13-inch steering wheel, problem fixed, now I seat fine with plenty of space.

The Elite seats lowers your seat one full inch, plus they recline back, and the smaller 13-inch steering wheel will give you two extra inches of space as well.

If you want to keep your originals seats, you can definitelt move them back, but extra holes in the floor will have to be drilled.

Another option would be installing a tilt steering column, which I'm considering myself to have even more space.

Yeah, I had read that article before, it is a great option, but a lot of work involved.

Elite seats:

Tilt steering column:

13-inch steering wheel:

If you get all those three items, you will have lots of space.

You can also take your seat tracks off your seats and redrill new holes in the bottom of the seat frame. Putting new holes forward will shift the seat back correspondingly.

I'm 6'5" - 300lbs as well. I just recently did a complete interior from floor pans to sun visors. I also went with the sport seat foam ( minus the head rest ) to give a little extra padding because my fat *** puts the hurt on the oem stuff.

I didn't change any of the original seat tower positions nor did I go with a smaller wheel ( no power steering makes it tough for the wife to drive with a smaller wheel ). I just adjust the back to lean a little further and I am fine. I guess I could have moved things back a few inches, however, there's little to no room in the back as it is.

I can tell you that changing the seat tower positions are no easy task. You might as well cut the pan out and replace it if you're that far into it.

Good luck.

I'm one of the smaller of the guys here at only 5'9" and 180. I have a little trouble navagating thru the narrow space between the wheel and the seat. Than when I get there I wish I had more room for my thighs and another inch to scoot back.

6'4" / 285 (but 6'9" with the afro... - who remember's that quote?)

Since I have to do floor pans I'm going to modify it like the one that Mustang's Plus showed in their catalog - I need all the room I can get.
