Default engine cleaning

hey fellas,

its been a while since i have posted here, but thats cause i was out working making lots of money for my mustang. right now i have about $600 that i can spend on getting me engine back up and running. the first thing i want to do to it is get it professionaly cleaned. like... i want to give my engein block & heads to someone all oily and rusted, and i want to get them back looking brand new and performing like they are brand new.
My questions:

How much would something like this cost?
How long would this take?
How many of you have done this before and what do you think of the end result?
Where could i get this done ( I live in So Cal, about 20 miles out side of LA )

what all do they do when you take your engine to a professional cleaner place?

thats all i can think of for now, and other information would be great, thanks for any input, its appreceiated.

If I'm understand you right...

Getting the block boiled and at the very least honed out ( pending wear, it's most likely going to need line bored .30 ) can run anywhere from a couple hundred to ???

Having your heads re worked can cost about whatever you want to put in it basicaly. Going back bone stock with everything usualy runs 100 bucks a head. ( again pending wear - personaly, I'd replace everything ).

Just a side note :

The whole reason for rebuilding a motor is...

1) you save the labor cost by doing it yourself.
2) the motor is of some importance : IE: Hipo, Boss, rare in some fashion.
3) Numbers matching ( unless you're showing the vehicle, this is of little importance.)

However, if you're farming everything out ( including assembly ) - in most cases, you're better off going the crate motor route. You spend about the same money as having one rebuilt and you get a reputable warranty, etc.

Just some food for thought.

Make things easy on urself. Just buy a can of engine degreaser. It will take alot of the gunk and oil off the engine.

don't get it line bored if possible because that decreaes the distance between crank and the cam and that will give you slop in the timing chain get it line honed if possible

yeah if u just want it cleaned get a couple of can from the parts store drive to a self wash station with a wand mask off the ignition system, carb etc by the time u get finished the motor will still be warm soak it down nice wait about 10 min spray it off u can detail the motor in the car although time consuming but its free except for your labor and a little materials

Better yet, buy a pressure washer and a few cans of degreaser. Then have fun in your driveway. That way, if you get water in the wrong places, you can just push it back in the garage to dry it off.

My pressure washer was $200 and has paid for itself in quarters.

After you spray it clean with water, you can use compressed air to dry it out. You should paint any bare metal to prevent rust.
