Default I6 to 289/351

The original motor was a IV I6 with a three speed, the engine and tranny werent there when I bought the car, I want a V8....Can I put either a 289 or 351 into that car without modifying it too much? Ive heard to put the 289 you just need to change the motor mounts...any help?

There's 3 or 4 articles on this in the FAQ section.

You have a 1988 Mustang according to your Avatar. If you have a classic mustang with an I6 in it, then say so.

What year is the Stang?

You can do the swap by only changing out the motor mounts, but I wouldn't suggest going anywhere you have to use brakes or turn. [8D]

Basically, the whole drivetrain and front and rear suspension need to be replaced. Lots of parts.

Mounts, motor, trans, driveshaft, rear end, suspension -front and rear, brakes MUST be upgraded.

If' you would like to make it easy on yourself, I have a 200ci I6 and a C4 I am willing to part with. You could get them off my hands and than you'll have a running car.

No he said, I bought the 88 a while back for 64$.

So, It's a 64 (eh hem, 1/2). I would leave it. It's the inagrual(sp) year. just do a clean resto and you've got yourself a BEAUTE!

1988 - mustang lx (daily driver)

1964 1/2 - I bought the begining of december and continues to sit behind my house and rot untill someone buys it

1967 - I bought last weekend the 7th to be exact but this is the car I plan to restore (this is the car im refering to in this post)
