Default 4-speed compatibility for 200 ci?

I'm looking at an unmolested65 Coupe with 200ci and 3-speed manual trans. I wonder if the 4-speed of the same period will bolt straight onto the six? If I buy the car, I would probably eventually put in a V8, but that might be a ways down the road. Thanks for any advice.

Does the six cyl/manual trans combo have any intrinsic value if in unmolested form? It's not a concours car by any means, but it also has not at all been messed with over the years, amazingly.

Im not sure about the tranny question but i think it should... And putting in a V8 in that car will be alot of work. It would probably be cheaper to buy a V8 car to begin with

There was a four sped option for the early six cylinder Mustangs. It used a Dagenham transmission that I think was made in England. This site has some information on it: http://www.billwrigley.com/v_14.html I seem to remember that some of the six cylinder bell housings had a dual bolt pattern that would allow for the installation of a Top Loader or T10.

The only thing you will be gaining is a little more power around town. But on the road, the 4 and the 3 speed are both 1:1 ratio.
I thought about putting in a toploader in mine because I have the 3 speed manual, but after pricing a top loader and all the trouble and expense of putting it in, I decided to stick with my 3 speed. It works just fine and dandy.
If you still want to splurge, and don't have a source for a toploader, here is one.

which 3-speed do you have? 2.77 or 3.03? what is the I.D. letters of the tranny?
i'm looking to replace my I6 with a 289 and keep the 3-speed
i.ve read that the 2.77 won't take the power, but the 3.03 will.

Soaring wont answer you,,,,, he is not posting on this forum any more....

I think someone here might have an answer for you though....I don't know, but those 3 speeds behind the I-6 engines look awfully small...
