Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Can I buy the parts to fix the cowl, and have it replaced by a mechanic?

Anybody ever done that?

Is it a do it yourself kinda project?

Keep in mind, I'm not too mechanically inclined.

Does anyone have pics of the rusted out cowl? My car leaks also on the passenger side and I would like to see what I am up against.

Ive seen pictures of cowls that were replaced and then had the vents smoothed out. Looked pretty slick actually but wouldnt be too fun for the heater issue...

The part that rust is above the heater on one side and above the vent on the other side. I replaced these on a 67 I had, Major work.

Hope this helps

If yours hasn't rusted yet, loosen the fender and lift slightly from the door side. Find where the drain slot is and drill it out from the inner fender to this piece in the cowl area, above the heater.
Cover the drilled out hole with a flap of some kind to keep out trash from the front tire.
If you wait till it rust the result will be rusted out floor pans and ruined carpet
