Wiring a new starter?

Wiring a new starter?
So I got a new mini-starter from Summit to replace my crappy Kragen rebuild that flips a coin whether it wants to start or not. Anyway, the new starter has its own solenoid built into it which they recommend using. To keep things somewhat original looking, can I just move the starter's cable to the same side of thesolenoid (i.e. connected diretly to the batter)and then splice in a new wire from the 'S' on my factory starter solenoid to the solenoid on the new starter? I can't think of any problems leaving the factory solenoid in place and the starter key 'activating' the solenoid but with no draw on the starter side, but I want to make sure.
Also, I can't seem to find my wiring diagram. What does the wire going to the 'I' side of the solenoid do? With the key on, it has 12V, none with the key off. The wire to the 'S' side has 12V only when the key is turned, correct? In other words, what happens if the 'I' wire is not connected to the solenoid?
Thanks!

RE: Wiring a new starter?
Here's a view of a mini-starter wired into the existing solenoid. Move the heavy starter cable from the aft side of the solenoid to the front - connect the other end to the large lug on the mini-starter. Now you have a hot wire to the starter at all times. Now run a new wire (10gage) from the aft lug of the solenoid to the small lug of the mini-starter.
Now, when you hit the ignition switch, the new 10g wire energizes the solenoid on the mini-starter and off you go.

RE: Wiring a new starter?
Awesome James, thanks for the help. I wasn't sure if running the starter through two solenoids would be a problem or not but it is nice to know that it won't.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
