Gee, can I throw in a Reliant 2dr. with a super 60 TurboII? I don't know if the link still works, but Gary Donovan had some video of his Reliant drag car smoking a Supra badly and it wasn't a stock Supra either. He turns in the 10s with it running an automatic. Actually, put in a 1967 GT500, it was real fast, 428 running 427 medium riser heads and 2 Holleys.

i agree. the mustang would get smoked by a car that is half the weight and im guess by "twin turbo with extreme mods" were talking stage 3 in everything right? so im guessing at LEAST 400hp on the supra. but ya it would come

i dont care if the supra wins. whos car is gonna turn the most heads? the 429 or the gt500? cuz i can tell ya right now the crowd after the race is gonna flock around those cars...not the supra

curious.... if you took a bone stock boss 429 and did nothing but a cam change along with valve springs - what kinda power would that beast REALLY make?

im just wondering how bad ford lowballed its capability in a stock form

what you guys smoking? you know the boss9 had upwards of 450+hp stock? it was listed extremely below what it really had

ford really lowballed the sae gross hp ratings. they did it cuz insurance companies were starting to come down on ppl and throwing their rates up. plus i think somewhere in the mid 70's they change hp rating and the 375 they say the 429 would do it more like 420+ nowadays.

if u just changed out the cam and valve i would think almost 500ish

Ok here are some accurate numbers.

69 Boss 429 - Factory lowballed at 355 hp. Its been proven to have a minimum of 490 hp stock.
68 GT500 - Factory lowballed at 335 hp. Known to have between 400-450 hp stock. I believe this is lighter than the Boss as well.

Supras can put up ridiculous #s but none of them can deliver that to the wheels.

It would be a close race between the Boss and the Shelby, but the Boss would win by a car length. The Supra would be back at least 3-4 car lengths.
If the Mustangs were even slightly modded, it wouldn't be a contest.

From what I have seen and heard, if you say the horse power is within 10-20 horsepower of the torque you are going to be pretty close to what the actual horsepower was.
