Default How to paint Chrome

I have never painted chrome before, because I have never had the need to. I am bidding on an export brace that was chrome plated sometime during it's life, and if I win this guy, I want to paint it black. Any ideas? This may or may not be an original export brace, but it is advertised as being thicker than the repops. Hell, it may even have come off an Shelby.

Well, I don't have a bead blaster, and I hate to think of acid all over the place. If there is no way to paint it, then I guess I will hope someone outbids me.

so you say thats painted on chrome? like rattle can? looks good, i thought that always looked crappy....u could get like one of those spot blaster guns and just get some media and hook it up to your compressor....I've seen then for like $15....i dono how good they work but seems like it would be fine for something so small.

Not a real Shelby, as the bolt pattern at the cowl is wrong. It may be a Ford unit that was chromed. They were heavier duty.

if you search in google for "how to paint over chrome" people usually say that the following worked for them
sand it down with 100 then 200 sanding paper until the surface is dull (not shiny anymore). then primer, then paint

someone even said he painted straight on the chrome, so he could remove the colour in case that's needed somewhen ... don't know if I'd believe that

no warranties on this one though ;-) never tried
