Default RE: Performance Upgrade!

If you take a stock block and heads, stroke to a 408an run a mild cam, 380 -400hp is more than possible. My understanding is that you can port the heads, or upgrade the heads, and get in to the 425hp range.

But the real issue here is not about making the HP, it is simply if a stockFMX tranny will handel the HP, from reading some of the posts it sounds like it is good for 425??

Thanks for all the inputs,

Quarter mile times and real dyno numbers would support any high hp claim out there.
i agree wholeheartedly.

im in florida so altitute is low, my cam is a 300/300 advertised duration .500/.500 lift. it was considered "full race" back in the day when it was purchased (again n.o.s. cirka 1980). the block was zero decked, the heads had approx .010 milled off, and with the .440 dome trw forged slugs im up in the 12:1 range. its very lumpy at an idle, and i have a canister to help with the brakes. behind the motor sits a c4 with a custom 2800 stall mustang II converter, alto red eagle clutches, kolene steels, a kevlar band, billet servo, and tci streetfighter valvebody cooled with an extra tranny cooler and b&m synthetic trick shift.

my77stang,
Now it is sounding hotter, the lift is still mild, but the duration is long. Now get to the track and bring back some numbers!

yeah i know the lift isnt huge, but as you pointed out it has hella long duration. i kinda like that cause its not beating the crap outta the valves and lifters since it has a longer ramp up and down the lobe - i can wing that thing up to the 7k redline its set to via the msd box pretty much instantly and i have cruised at over 6k for about 10 minutes and it was running smooth, purrs like a kitten running that high. oh yeah, and i have a "quiet" gear drive which still sounds like a bad power steering pump LOL.

its been parked for a little while, i start it occassionally but i need to go thru it and put it back on the road. i WILL get it dyno'd at the rear wheels, cause i gotta bring the 06 gt somewhere anyways once i can afford the CAI and tuner i want
