Shift Kit

Shift Kit
Alot of the kids at my school think I should put a shift kit on my 65 Mustang GT. I was wondering what it would do for my car? Also, do you guys have any ideas on what kind I should get if I do get one, how much it would be and how hard it would be to put on? Thanks.

RE: Shift Kit
Shift kits are great,in my opinion.Normal transmissions are made for comfort and 1st and 2nd gear bands are actually both engaged for a moment at the shift point.this makes the transition smoother but is counterproductive for going fast. The shift kit separates the action of the bands so you can feel the shift as more positive(dangerous on slippery roads).
I do my own work as far as engine building, brakes, upholstry.Anything but transmissions(learned the hard way).I tried to install a shift kit in my c4,had no luck with it.Problem was the c4 needed a professional rebuild.I found a shop with a guy who loved working on muscle cars.He rebuilt it with a shift kit for $650.Now its bulletproof. If you do it yourself, dont throw anything away(they tell you to discard some things like little rubber check *****).C4 parts are very hard to come by new from ford.If you have to deliver the tranny to the shop in a basket like I did, they will be looking for these parts.

RE: Shift Kit
B&M Stage II shift kits are like 30 bucks, and easy to install. I did mine with the tranny in the car when i was 16 and it worked great and the difference in shifting is amazing.

RE: Shift Kit
Does B&M make a shift kit for C-4s for that year? In my NPD catalog, it only offers it for 67 to 84 C-4 transmissions. If anyone knows different, let me know, because I will definitely buy one. My car transmission shifts very slow.

RE: Shift Kit
I agree with DenDen, transmissions are the one item that must be done correctly, the first time.Reduced shift time and firmer shifts reduce heat and actually increase tranny life. Fordmuscle has an excellent forum dedicated to C4's, I highly suggest it.

RE: Shift Kit
Hey guys, I have also heard a lot about shift kits. Only problem, I have an FMX tranny. I heard that shift kits and other things are very hard to come by for an FMX.
Anyone know where I can get a good shift kit for my FMX? I'm looking to upgrade this and my rear gears (plus posi) semi-soon.
EDIT: I amazingly found one pretty quick. How will this one work? How's the price?
