RE: 65 289 won't fire
Do you know the different firing orders. I have it as 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. This is how I have mine set up right now. I know that the #1 cylinder is on the passenger side front and goes back from there then 5 on the drivers side back. I will go pull the valve cover off and try that. Thanks for your help.

RE: 65 289 won't fire
After adjusting the valves I realize they were to tight and therefore always open. No compression. So I backed them off then tried to start it. It fired right up but it is 10pm here and I didn't want to bother my neighbors or my sleeping son so I shut it down. It is pretty loud with just headers. I will start it up tomorrow to do some more adjustments. Thanks guys. I am a very happy camper.

congratulations !
a word of warning:
if you run an engine and some valves don't close properly they'll burn.
Reason for that is that they need the valve seat to cool down.
If they don't have this option you'll make crisps out of them. So take care in how to adjust them
(i don't know hot to do it on that engine, but FAQ might know)

oh, and since you just got it started for the first time..... if its not a roller cam make sure you rev it to about 1500 and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes to prevent your cam from being wiped out prematurely. (and make sure you dont have any other valves too tight first)
