Default independent rear end

i have a 67 fastback and i have heard of people putting an independent t-bird 8.8 rear end in them does anyone know anything about this and would it be hard to do without cutting the whole back end offmy car i have access toone of these t-bird rear ends and a 9 inch and i can have basically either one for freeand would it be worth it to go with the independent rear endfor the handling or go with the 9 inch for strength. im planning on putting close to 400hp in it btw

the 8.8 will more than handle the 400hp its the half shafts that are gonna be the weak link but with as many people that hop up tbird supercoupes there should be some good ones out there

as for going independent thats what the purpose of the fastback in the 1st place but it was cut from the car i imagine ud nee to take the rear frame rails, all the moutning brackets off the floor etc so u could mod it to fit the floorpan off of the tbird to make it happen

Heidt's makes an IRS that looks a lot like a Jag. Uses the half-shaft for the upper control arm. They use a 9" with aluminum housing and adjustable coil overs that are also available in double units and it has inboard mounted discs which lowers your unsprung weight drastically. The wheel bearings are based on Corvette pieces. They use a forward, triangle mount type trailing arm set-up. Price starts at around $5300.00 and goes up from there.

I've never driven a car with it but it has to ride better. It looks to have enough adjustable points to get the handling right.

Go to stag-aholics.com for some very good pictures.

That IRS is a very nice set-up! It looks to be a good bit better that the one from Heidt's. I think I saw one like it that was selling for over $9,000.00. As I always asy "rich or poor, it's nice to have money"

No. The 4-link from them is. I drove a car with that set-up and it was very good. Don't knnow if the IRS is worth 4-to-8 thousand dollars more.
