Default Orange crap?

Take a look at this pic of Ol' Yeller's driver side door and tell me what you think this orange looking crap is.

Looks like a little bit of rust??? Look where the weatherstipping is there is a slight rust trail probably from the screw holding it to the jamb??

You guys are probably right, and I will treat it as rust, but the only rust I have ever treated was brown, not orange.

I just now went out in the garage and put some rust encapsulator on it, and it didn't turn black, so it is not rust. What could it be?

Jab your screwdriver into it and see if it's solid behind there. (I thought that is how cars were checked out?!)

Just poking at 'cha.

No seriously - I've never seen orange but it doesn't look good. Could it possibly be a rust preventative that was sprayed into there a long time back that is weeping out due to heat or? Reminds me of cosmoline actually...

Can you remove the trim piece via screws to get behind it? Could it be the trim piece that is rusted and then is bleeding down onto the jam area?
