The car came with the Heidts allready installed. I built the cage at my shop.It is a road race 6 point but will eventually be an 8pt two bars going through the fire wall. The 4.6 is not as wide as the 5.4 or as tall. There will definetly be some creativity. the good part is I own a restoration shop and it makes it that much easier. Hydroboost should fit but will be tight. The trans was rebuilt before the motor was warrantied by Ford for the infamous head tick. The car was totaled at 3500 with the new motor. I have spent a lot of time researching and I am ready to begin once I get a little more free time. I got home late tonight from work so I will post some pics tomorrow.

Here is the engine compartment with the heidts front end and the Z-headed ford crate motor. Which is for sale. The car was orange when I got it and will be change to blue.

The 4.6 shouldn't be as bad as the 5.4, however, it is a 65-66 and the engine compartments are tight. Check out this thread at SVT Performance forum. Friend of mine that is finishing a '69 with an '03-'04 Mach motor. '67EvilEleanors photos and these might help you.

Well the hard part is done.. Does it drive straight? Since the front end is setup for it, the only thing holding you back is making the engine fit, ie headers, pan and exterior stuff.. Should be a nice build.

It seems we get someone every week who wants to put one of these in, thinking its a drop in deal. Yours is about as close to drop in as I have seen in some time. It took someone ALOT of work to get there and doing it right isnt something everyone can do. I realize you know this ntimid8, but think of how many people arent aware of what it takes to do a 4.6L swap, and how many have no clue how much work it is to change the entire front suspension, and get it installed so it can be aligned and not have evil handling.. Sure it can be done, but the chances of a novice doing it right the first time is very slim. Hope yours works well, it looks like it was done well..

The cage looks nice and it fits in there good. Was it a kit or did you custom bend it all? Nice welds too... have seen some really ugly stuff, some with an NHRA cert stuck to them too.. lol..

A few posts aboveI mention that the cage will extend through the firewall. I didn't do that part yet becauseI wanted to see what I have to work with once the motor is in. I will also be adding a removeable cross brace behind the seats.

Thanks for the trust. lol I have been around the block with these cars. I specialize in early and late modelmustangs. I also restore just about anything in the 50-70's. I have the tools & the knowledge. Now allI need is the time and money. lol The previous owner owned a paint shop and did some nice work other than the orange paint. The body work and MII came out really nice. I built the cage from scrap and used the tig for welds. This is the second cage I have done like this and it works well. This car may never see a road coarse other than for fun. You can't tell in the pics butI leaned the main hoop back. So when you look in the windows you don't see the cage. Everything is as tight as I coould get it. I was really torn on going through the dash however. But I don't personally like bars in front of it either. I want to add more frame bracing in the engine compartment and change the subframes the original owner did to something better. I wasn't planning on taking the cage that far. A few months back I watched a 10yr boy get thrown from a car in a roll over and die right in front of me. It hit way to close to home and I made the decision to try and make this car safer in case a roll over. if you're in the back seat in one of these and the roof comes down your screwed. The cage will be padded in cover in leather.

Here is a crapy shot of the motor. It's raining here in Sacramento and I didn't want to open my door and get wet. I will take better pics of the running gear in a few days.

Sounds like fun, but I would put it in something with a bigger engine compartment to start. "Minor" fab work could turn into a "Major" headache!

I do wish you the best. I have been tossing that idea around for a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time. Won't do it to the 66 tho. Too much work.

GL!
