Wanted to stop in and say high and ask a few Q's! Been aroung Mustangs since I was 16, had a 75 II as my first car, been into the foxbodies ever since, finally picked up a 68 coupe, orginal 289, c4. Just recently restored. I'm adding to it and have a few questions. I've searched throught the forums and seen case fill and pan fill. From what I can get the 70 & up were case fill and 69 below were pan fill? Also 24 spline on older years and 26 spline 70 and up. My question lies in that my 68 has a case fill from what I can tell the tube goes in the case in front of the servo. So is my tranny a 26 or a 24 spline and is it the original tranny. Havnt ran any #'s except the door code. I plan on pulling the motor soon, got a great deeal on a H/C/I combo from a buddy. Just wanted to get things straight on the tranny. I just bought a TCI valvebody but it says its for 70 & up?

try http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/, great forum on C4's. I believe 67 and later went to 26 spline, the 24 spline is '64-66, but that forum should be able to answer your questions in detail.

The pan fill C-4's were the big bell housing trannys: Case fill 157 tooth, Pan fill 164 tooth flexplates...Pan fill supposed to have a little bit stronger case and bell housing is attached seperately from the front pump. Pan fill are also all later version....IIRC the valve body is visibly different between early and later versions of the C-4.

64-69 Case fill and 24 spline. 70 and up 26 spline, Pan fill or case fill. Could have either small (157) or large (164) teeth flywheel.
