A 4 barrel carb will almost always use more fuel than a 2 barrel. I say "almost" because, in theory, if you keep your foot out of the accelerator, the primaries on a typical 4 barrel are smaller than on a 2 barrel and should use less fuel. That being said... what's the point of having a 4 barrel if you aren't using all of them? I think for the majority of us that have classic Mustangs, fuel mileage isn't on the top of our concern list. If that were the case, we would all be driving little hybrids! The guys at Bad *** Engines will probably have great advice on which carb would work well with one of their engines. I have an Edelbrock Performer on my 351W and it seems to work well for me. A lot of people use Holley carbs also. Do a search on here and you'll be overwhelmed with information. Good luck!
