This is a really dumb question.

When I go to work on the front end I have been jacking up the car on the front cross member, actually it's the only place I can find to lift it.

Is there do's and don'ts to lifting a Mustang? Jack stand placement.

Front cross member is fine for jacking it up. I've also used the side rails for jacking and for the jackstands.

I use a small wood block when I lift on the frame rails. Saves them from being dented from the metal circle deal on the jack.

right on with the wood thing,,orignal metal is only so strong and design stuff,,learned that one the hard way on another car

Definitely use the wood blocks whereever possible because it also ditributes the load. Also never get under the car with it supported only by the jack.

A dude I knew was doing an oil change on a sloped driveway with a bumper jack, no chock, no emergency brake and suprise suprise, the car came off of the jack. His head was about 4 inches thick front to back when they got the car off of him. Dumb ***. May he rest in peace.

If you are just changing a tire, the jack that came with the car fits under the rocker panel. You will see a slot cut out for the location. Now, if you are wanting the front or back, or both in the air, that's different. If you are using a bottle jack, then stop using a bottle jack. Get a decent floor jack (rated at least at 2000 lbs.)and jack up the front from the cross member in the front and the pumpkin in the rear. Always use chocks and have a manual transmission in reverse and an automatic in Park if you are lifting the front. Always, Always, Always use jack stands, and lots of them before you crawl under a car.

And American ones, I had a chinese piece of crap fold over from the weight even though it was well under the rated strength.[:'(]
