Default Fuel Sending Unit

I just replaced my fuel sending unit and my gas gauge still only goes a bit past E. I have tested the wiring by grounding it to the body and the needle goes to F so I know it's not stuck. The sending unit is reading the fuel cause it does move a little when I turn the key. I am stumped. It has a full tank of gas (so that sugestion is out) [8D]And the unit is not in upside down. Thanks, Scott

Yeah,I have the same problem. Someday I am going to replace my gas gauge. Does anyone have a 65 gauge pod they are willing to sell?

You have two options, both require removal of the sending unit - bend the arm and a resistance check which should read about 70 ohms.

I bent the hell out of that and it made no difference, I hear where you are coming from.
Guide me further.

It's been a while, but I when I swapped tanks from my 66 hardtop to 66 fastback (the one I sold), the gauges did not read properly. I still get a screwball reading on the hardtop, at 3/4 full reading, it's actually 1/2. The 65 (and 66) Ford service manual says replace, big deal. Based on some input I got from my mentor, I did a resistance check and did what was recomended - bend arms. What I remember is the maximum resistance of 70 ohms (it is a variable wire wound resistor and subject to opens and winding shorts due to wear) and I think there is also some type of adjustment. It's more of a pain so most of us live with it. Maybe this summer I'll fix mine - after I paint the dining room, paint the deck, etc.

No Sunday afternoon drive with 6 inches of snow on the ground already and it's supposed to keep snowing for the next 24 hours. I HATE NY!!! At least we got high taxes to make up for the $%^##* weather.

Pardon my ignorance and educate me. Seems like a lot of bending going on to the float arm on 65-66 model stangs to get the sending units to read correctly. On my 67, the sending unit had a screw which I used to adjust the the height of the float arm. Does the 65-66 models not have that type adjustment? Seems weird to have to bend a sending unit piece to get it to work...
